Eleven wines have been chosen for the 2012 Lieutenant Governor's Awards for Excellence in British Columbia Wines. We are very pleased and proud to announce that for the second time in our first three vintages Painted Rock has earned two of the prestigious BC Lieutenant Governor’s Awards for Excellence in BC Wines. These highly coveted awards will be presented to us by His Honour Stephen Point on July 26th at our winery.
When we won two awards for our first vintage it confirmed that we were on the right track and validated the potential of our estate property, our team and our mandate. Now with our third vintage we expect to solidify our reputation as reliable and consistent producers of excellent wines. Our very simple goal is to get better and not bigger and to realize the full potential of our Skaha Bench estate vineyard. We have enjoyed wonderful support and acceptance of our wines since they were first released for which we are very grateful. This has enabled us to continue to adhere to the strictest protocol and mandate in our quest to produce the finest wines.
The award winning wines, our 2009 Red Icon blend ($55) and our 2009 Syrah ($40) are available in limited quantities if you contact Jill at 604 765 4538 or by email at sales@paintedrock.ca. We also have a few signed and numbered magnums of the 2009 Red Icon available at $125 per bottle.
This year was the largest competition in the 10-year history of the awards, with 347 wines submitted from 94 wineries across the province.
May 23, 2012 Decanter World Wine Awards 2012
Results of more than 12,200 entries for the Decanter World Wine Awards 2012 were announced today in London. Painted Rock’s 2009 Painted Rock, Red Icon has won a SILVER MEDAL.
Wines at Decanter are tasted blind within their region of origin and price bracket to ensure that an expression of terroir is taken into account, and wines are compared like for like. Each wine is individually assessed and discussed by a dedicated panel before a verdict is recorded. The initial grades that a wine can receive from a panel are: no award, Commended, Bronze, Silver or Gold. All Silver and Gold-medal winning wines are re-tasted by the Regional Chair for confirmation.
This wine will be featured at the Unsigned Talent tasting at the 2012 London International Wine Fair, May 22-24 in Excel, London. For full results of the 2012 Decanter World Wine Wards, please visit www.decanter.com

In the Syrah du Monde, an International competition between the best Syrah in the world, 445 wine samples from 24 countries were tasted. The judges tasted in accordance with the International Rules, and they strictly followed Quality Assurance procedures. After three days of judging, the panels awarded medals to 149.
