2021 Cabernet Franc
100% Cabernet Franc
Complex and savory, the nose offers prominent notes of Italian herbs, olives and cooked green peppers which blend harmoniously with the dark and red fruits and a touch of cedar. The smooth tannins complement the rich red fruit and herbaceous notes on the palate.
"The wine begins with aromas of herbs, spice and dark cherry. On the palate, there are the classic brambly flavours of this varietal. The tannins still have a bit of grip. This wine will age superbly." - John Schreiner

Fruit was hand-picked from our single 3.01 acre vineyard block on November 15, 2021 and berry sorted. Fruit was broken into small batches, cold soaked on the skins for four days and fermented for an additional 21 days on the skins in tank with twice daily pump overs. The batches were then barrel aged for 18 months in 30% new French oak and blended prior to bottling. Unfiltered.

It was a hot summer that was punctuated by a heat dome which settled on the Okanagan Valley from the end of June through early July. The combination of high heat and low rainfall contributed to another year of lower than anticipated yield but excellent quality fruit. Despite the heat during the days, we benefited from our usual cooler evening temperatures which kept the acidity bright and the resulting wines incredibly balanced.
