Striking dark purple colour in the glass, offering cassis, blackberries, dark cherries on the nose along with peppercorn, nutmeg and baking spices. The palate is juicy and concentrated with further fruit character and bold peppery spices. The tannins are supple and elegant.
REVIEWS & AWARDS
Sara D'Amato - 93 Points "Meaty, substantial and earthy with an abundance of authentic black fruit. A top-notch malbec offering subtle notes of violet, licorice and bramble. Juicy, with dynamic pep and offering excellent length. A fine example of the high quality potential of this grape variety in the Okanagan. Tasted June 2020."
Daenna Van Mulligen "Intense, inky, supple. The 2017 season provided small concentrated berries and limited amounts of this Malbec was created. High-toned purple fruits and floral aromas are layered with vanilla, licorice, toasted spices and savoury spices, dried plum and pipe tobacco. It is a powerful wine with sweet fruit and a supple weight; succulent and intense, inky and potent it trails flavours of fresh berries, dark mocha, spice and earthy/mineral notes. The finish is long and textured."

Media for past vintages:
2016 Malbec - 92 Points, Anthony Gismondi "This is a blockbuster malbec that presents awash in black fruit and spice. The dry, desert Skaha environment may not be Andean but the proximity of the lake and cool nights have stoked its florals and acidty to keep it on point. Another level above the C.C. Jentsch and the Hillside, this tells an impressive Okanagan tale. Big, boisterous and ready to go, this must be tamed with a grilled piece of lamb or another decade in the cellar."
2015 Malbec - 92 Points, John Schreiner "This wine was released just to Painted Rock’s wine club. It begins with powerful and appealing aromas of violets, cherries and plums, leading to flavours of black cherry, blackberry and plum. The finish goes on and on.
Our estate vineyard has just 1 acre of Malbec planted with 2,000 plants. Most of our Malbec is used to create our Red Icon blend. Small lots can only be made in select vintages. In 2017 our Malbec was harvested on Oct. 17. The wine was aged in 30% new oak for 18 months. Unfiltered.

The 2017 vintage began slower than 2016, with a cool and wet spring. This left bud burst delayed slightly, but the delays didn’t last long with the first official day of summer bringing with it a warm, dry summer with temperatures above average and below average rainfall. The result was small berries, ripe with complexity and deep concentration. With small berries came lower juice yield and an overall smaller harvest. Expect this to be a stand out vintage for the Okanagan, though potentially hard to find given the smaller yield.
