Dark and rich, cassis, blackberry, vanilla and spice on the nose. On the palate more ripe black fruit, dark chocolate, vanilla and baking spice with mouth filling ripe tannins & high acidity. Give this wine maximum cellar time for the ultimate reward.

94 POINTS It begins with an inviting aroma of vanilla, black cherry and chocolate. On the rich and full palate, there are flavours of black currant, plum, dark chocolate and coffee. On the finish, there are notes of cloves, pepper, vanilla and chocolate. The texture is elegantly polished. John Schreiner

Captivating, complex, powerful. Painted Rock's premium red is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Malbec. It is a captivating fusion of plum ripe black berries and cherry aromas with licorice, vanilla, mocha, baking spices and a hint of pepper. The palate is supple with powdery ripe tannins throughout. The fruit is juicy and is layered with toasted spice and espresso flavours. Youthful still, but boasting great intensity, powerful structure and impressive persistence.
Open one now and decant, hold another for a year to coalesce more and cellar the third for 5-15 years.  Daenna Van Mulligen

Savoury with juicy, meaty, almost bacon notes mid-palate. Aromas of cassis and wild blackberry.  Natalie Maclean

The 2013 Red Icon returns favour to what was observed in '11 and seemed to have softened in '12. The taut, muscular, interminability is back and harmonized as one, in a blend that changes lanes and leaders...Though a collapsing at some far away finish line will happen, the tape is stretched with a long-distance runner in mind. The flavours are so very broad, like the wine's shoulders and the acidity flanks with great support. It's like this one is a developing teenager with muscles and bones stretched over a coat-hanger. What a specimen. Drink 2018-2028. Michael Godel

A rich, generous wine that retains vibrancy despite its impact on the palate. Chalky tannins, riveting blackberry fruit, black currant, cedar, bitter chocolate and black olives. An interesting Mediterranean flavour profile with sun-dried tomato and sea salt popping the fruit the palate. Time will certainly be kind to this iconic Bordelaise blend. Best 2018-2020. Sara d’Amato

It's mid-weight, elegant, dense, dry and youthfully tannic. It is well structured and has real finesse, but needs time still. Very good to excellent length; wanted more. Best 2018 to 2023. David Lawrason
