Aromas of ripe red fruit and florals jump out of the glass with raspberries, cherries, blackberries, and rose water. Rounded and rich on the palate with ripe, silky tannins with further flavours of cracked pepper, vanilla and toasted coconut. Lingering pepper and baking spices on the finish.

Silver Medal, Decanter World Wine Awards

John Schreiner "The wine begins with aromas of deli meats, black cherry, vanilla and pepper. On the palate, the wine is rich and earthy, with flavours of black cherry mingled with black cherry and plum and a touch of pepper." 94 Points

Beppi Crosariol, The Globe & Mail "Okanagan syrah is on a roll and this latest release from Painted Rock stands as a great example of that grape's progress. From a glorious vintage, the wine is succulent, velvety and concentrated, with notes of plum sauce, cherry, pepper, leather and cured meat. So ripe, yet so spicy, balanced and fresh. Worth cellaring for up to a decade, but perfect now for such items as roast or grilled lamb or braised red-meat dishes."

100% Syrah.

Our Syrah was hand picked from our two estate syrah blocks starting on October 24, 2016. Our J block is planted with clone 100 and M block is planted with 99. The blocks were harvested individually, broken into small batches, cold soaked on the skins for 4 days and fermented for an additional 21 days on the skins in tank with twice daily pump overs. This wine was aged for 18 months in 30% new oak. Of that new oak, 80% was French and 20% was American. The remaining 70% was aged in 2nd and 3rd fill French oak.

The 2016 growing season started out early and similar to 2015 -hot hot hot. Both bud break and flowering were ahead of schedule in the spring with little rainfall, lots of sun and warm temperatures in both April and May. In June things became less consistent with more rain and lower temperatures. This weather continued through July with temperatures continuing to sit below the average for the first half of the month. It was mid-July before 'summer' seemed to kick back in with temperatures sitting around average for the rest of July, August and September.
