100% Cabernet Franc

Savoury and herbaceous aromas of olive, green pepper, smoke and mushrooms. Lively and bright on the palate with delicate, fine tannins and further fruit expression with flavours of cherry, eucalyptus and menthol.

John Schriener "This bold red  begins with aromas of black cherry, blackberry and black currant. It delivers rich, dark fruit flavours to the palate along with notes of cherry and chocolate.  93 Points.

Beppi Crosariol, The Globe and Mail "A tour de force, this could be an object lesson for Loire Valley producers who believe cabernet franc can't be fully ripe while also displaying some of the variety's lifted, herbal verve. Full-bodied and succulent, it's almost sticky-dense and busts forth with essences that include cherry, dark chocolate, espresso, smoked meat and dried herbs." 93 Points

John Szabo, Wine Align "2016 has delivered a terrifically balanced, sumptuous but fresh, impeccably-balanced cabernet franc from the small, 3 acre parcel on the Skaha Bench of the Painted Rock estate, having benefitted from the unusually long growing season and harvested late but still fresh on November 7th. The variety's green character is all but ripened out, leaving tobacco leaf and pot pourri, dried violet character. Tannins are plush and supple but the palate still has some grip, thanks in part to firm acid girding. Length is excellent. A very fine vintage for this wine, drinking now, but best after 2021 no doubt." 93 Points

David Lawrason, Wine Align " This is a lively, juicy and nicely fresh cabernet franc with lifted, nicely ripe aromas of raspberry, fresh thyme/sage, tobacco and nicely fitted background oak. It is medium bodied, fairly concentrated yet not overly structured, which to me is a very positive notion with cabernet franc. The focus and length are excellent." 92 Points

The 2016 growing season started out early and similar to 2015 - hot hot hot. Both bud break and flowering were ahead of schedule in the spring with little rainfall, lots of sun and warm temperatures in both April and May. In June things became less consistent with more rain and lower temperatures. This weather continued through July with temperatures continuing to sit below the average for the first half of the month. It was mid-July before 'summer' seemed to kick back in with temperatures sitting around average for the rest of July, August and September.
