Juicy and layered, the nose is reminiscent of dusty, ripe blueberries and violets. The wine is dry with chewy, chalky tannins that are balanced with bright acidity hinting at the future potential of this wine. Full on the palate with further floral characteristics and blackberries with well integrated oak characteristics.

The 2015 vintage kicked off with a warmer than average spring combined with minimal precipitation, leading to early bud break and flowering. The rest of the growing season followed suit with record breaking temperatures. Canopy management was key for Painted Rock in 2015. While harvest happened significantly earlier than normal though out the valley due to spiking sugar levels, we were able to forestall ripening long enough to ensure our phenolic ripeness (tannin) would have time to develop and be in balance with our sugar levels.
This was our 2nd vintage of a small lot Malbec. Our estate vineyard has just 1 acre of Malbec planted with 2,000 plants. Most of our Malbec is used to create our Red Icon blend. Small lots can only be made in select vintages. The wine was aged in 30% new oak for 18 months. Unfiltered
John Schreiner "It begins with powerful and appealing aromas of violets, cherries and plums, leading to flavours of black cherry, blackberry and plum. The finish goes on and on." 92 Points
